Some wise words from three current members:
“For more than 3 decades I have been a member of Southport Golf Club. Besides being a great place for players of all standards to play golf, Southport provides so much more and it is the people that make that possible. Most often the guys in the golf shop have your score card printed out before you even reach the desk and the bar staff can actually tell you what the other members in your group drink. Then there are the friendly faces of members and mates alike that I have known, not just for a few years but, in many, many cases, for DECADES! It might be clichéd to say but PEOPLE make Southport Golf Club a special place. Having a great course to play is ‘icing on the cake’. ‘Long may the tradition continue’.”
"I joined Southport Golf Club13 years ago after my children had both left home and I needed to do something for 'me' as any woman in the same situation suddenly realises. I quickly made some very close friends and both my husband & I got involved in the social atmosphere at the club which, to this day remains one of the best parts of our life. As we age and realise that we have to make the most of every opportunity it's very comforting to know that the golf is secondary; the companionship and friendships we make are so important. Southport has a very comforting atmosphere and any woman, irrespective of her age or marital status, would feel at home on and off the course. No one wants to be a world beater, we just want to enjoy every day".
